The 'selfie' phenomenon hits the World Cup

The Football World Cup can't start without a selfie...or a few thousands. The biggest stars in football already took a few selfies and uploaded them on various media platforms.

Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo, was one of the first to post a selfie of him and one of his team mates in the airplane while landing in Brazil. His arch-rival in Spanish football but also international football, Neymar jr. posted a selfie of half of Brazil's team heading to Sao Paolo for the tournament opener with Croatia.

Aguero and Messi with the rest of the Argentinian team also took a picture before landing in Brazil. Most football stars are very active on social media platforms. Cristiano Ronaldo has in excess of 26 million followers on Twitter. Neymar has almost 11 million followers, while his Spanish team mate at FC Barcelona, Andres Iniesta has 9 million.

The situation is quite similar when it comes to Facebook. According to official figures provided by the giant company, there are almost 4 million people talking about Cristiano Ronaldo and the figure is expected to go higher as the World Cup enfolds.
