Valve's Steam reaches historic milestone
Who said PC gaming is about to die? Valve just announced its Steam platform has reached a milestone. The digital platform has recorded a constantly growing trajectory and on June 29 the 8 million market was broken.
To be specific, a total of 8,020,700 people were logged into the service at the same time at 11.44 AM. It is the first time Valve records a concurrent user count exceeding 8 million. The previous record at 7.6 concurrent user was set almost half a year ago. Specialist say the massive growth is tied with Steam's Summer sale that ended yesterday. For about ten days, Valve's platform had huge discounts on famous games.
The most popular game on Steam right now is by far Dota 2. The free to play behemoth recorded more than 566,000 games playing on June 29 with the peak set at 730,276 according to Valve. Dota 2 is followed by Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The FPS recorded just shy above 100,000 players with the peak set at 165,615. The difference is somehow explained by the fact that Dota 2 is a free to play game, while Global Offensive is a paid game.
The top five played games on Steam is completed by Team Fortress 2, Payday 2 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim these thee game combining for a total of 110,000 to 120,000 gamers. Valve's Steam has more than 75 million active users.
