Kill-switch feature will be added to all smartphones
Smartphone ‘kill-switches’ are to become mandatory for every phone operating system on the market due to the huge success Apple experienced after it introduced the feature to its iOS 7.
In September, 2013, Apple added a feature to its OS which renders a smartphone useless in the case it was stolen. Owners can activate the feature remotely.
Five months into 2014 and the outcome of the kill switch has become more than obvious. While reports involving Apple products theft dropped by 29%, robberies of smartphones which lacked the kill switch increased by as much as 40%, as compared to the same period of last year.
The second tech giant to follow Apple into adding the kill switch was Samsung which also registered success in the fight against gadget robbery.
Now, with Microsoft announcing that it will also add the feature to its OS, smartphones will become a less-desired target for thieves.
