'Mini' gets a new meaning
As smartphones got larger and more expensive a few devices called “minis” found a place in the market. Almost every big name in the game has a “mini” device, but the term lost its original significance.
The “mini” flagship was the way phone manufacturers tried to secure better sales by shrinking desired handsets. However, the term “mini” lost its sense. In 2014 a mini device packs a 5 inch display. Bigger than almost everything on the market two years ago.
The latest name added on this list is the LG G3 Beat. Leaked out information and photos revealed LG's new so called “mini” device. The G3 mini, allegedly called Beat packs a 5 inch display. The 2014 HTC One had a 4.7 inch display and the Nexus 5 a 4.95 inch, so how is the Beat even called a mini?
Rumors say the Beat looks identical with its bigger brother. It certainly has flagship hardware with a quad-core 1.2 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, 4G LTE connectivity capabilities and an eight megapixel camera.
The same information puts the phone around the 400 dollar marker, but there is no official information regarding a release date. The phone looks like a shrunken G3 and it will certainly be cheaper, but there is no way this device could wear the “mini” badge.
