San Antonio Spurs won its fifth NBA title
San Antonio Spurs won their fifth NBA Championship after defeating Miami Heat, at home, in game five. The Texan based team completed its revenge after loosing the title last year against the same team. Kawhi Leonard was named Finlas MVP.
It was the only goal San Antonio Spurs chased all season long, a fifth NBA title and they have managed to pull it off. However, the early game was controlled by Miami. Lebron James carried the team to a 29-22 victory in the first quarter. His efforts were futile. San Antonio took over the game and a seven points advantage at the break.
The Spurs won the third period 30 – 18. It was basically the quarter that sealed the 104-87 victory and the deal. After a long period of seven years, San Antonio Spurs picked up the trophy once more. It was Tim Duncan's fifth, while the rest of the big three, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili clinched their fourth.
However, it was 22 year old Kawhi Leonard that stunned everyone. In last night's game he scored again 22 points and had 10 rebounds. He was named Finals Most Valuable Player making him the youngest to do it since Tim Duncan in 1999.
“It all just feels like a dream to me. Losing the championship last year, but winning it now makes you believe in your craft and your hard work,” said Leonard. Ginobili added “Last year was a tough one for us. We felt like we had the trophy, that we were touching it and it slipped away. We all felt guilty. We got to this spot and we didn't let go.”
