On the verge of elimination

England does not have one of its best Football World Cup final tournaments. Roy Hodgson's team recorded two defeats after the first two games and has slim chances of advancing into the knockout stage.

After being beaten by Italy, the match against Uruguay became the decisive one and England failed again. It was the “adoptive son”, Luis Suarez who eventually killed England scoring twice.

I am very disappointed, of course, but I don't feel I need to resign, no. On the other hand, if the FA think I'm not the right man to do the job, that will be their decision not mine,” said England's manager after the game.

Despite having lost two games, the players stand behind Roy Hodgson. “He gave us a good gameplan and we haven't delivered so we have to take responsibility. Everyone is hurting now, but hopefully, if Italy win we still have a bit of hope,” said captain Stepven Gerrard after the game.

There is still hope on England's side, but chances are slim. The situation in Group D is very balanced. Italy, Costa Rica and Uruguay all have three points, and England none. However, Hodgson's team is at Italy's hand. “Squadra azzura” must win tonight over Costa Rica. Any other result sends England home with the other teams that already booked tickets home: Spain, Australia and Cameroon.
