'GoalControl' awards France a goal over Honduras
The match between France and Honduras was the first one where the much talked about “goal line technology” was used. Benzema scored twice and France won 3-0 over a 10-man Honduras.
The clash between these two teams initiated the first moment at the 2014 Football World Cup where “GOalContril” was needed. A few minute into the second half Karim Benzema's shot hit the left crossbar and it was deflected by Valladeres across the goal line. The Brazilian referee, Sandro Meira Ricci awarded immediately the goal.
However, there was some controversy because initially, “GoalControl” ruled “No Goal” when the ball hit the crossbar and caused confusion inside the Porto Alegre Stadium. A second judgment then was revealed and the goal line technology proved to be a great “assistant” for the referee.
Despite a clear indication by “GoalControl”, Honduras players and coaching staff were very vocal about referee's decision and even after the game said the system is not flawless (which it is).
France went on and won the game 3-0. Benzema scored twice and Valladares scored one in his own goal.
