Luis Suarez apologised for biting Chiellini
The Uruguayan striker has finally admitted for the bite that got him a nine-match and four-month ban from football. He was drastically suspended by FIFA for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.
Initially, Suarez stated he tripped, lost balance and felt on Chielini with his mouth open hurting the Italian player as well as his teeth. However, once he spent a few times back home in Uruguay with his family, Suarez finally gave up his story. “The truth is that my colleague Giorgio Chiellini suffered the physical result of the bite in the collision he suffered with me,” said Suarez.
FIFA's suspension was considered by many way to big, but this was the third incident involving Suarez and his teeth. Two similar incidents occurred while he was playing for Ajax and tried to bite off Otman Bakkal in 2010 and last year when Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic.
“I deeply regret what occurred. I apologise to Giorgio Chiellini and the entire football family. I vow to the public that there will never again be another incident like this,” Suarez added. Chiellini reacted immediately and in fair-play manner said he hopes FIFA will reduce the ban. “It's all forgotten. I hope FIFA will reduce your suspension,” wrote Chiellini on his Twitter account.
Without Luis Suarez, Uruguay was knocked out of the Football World Cup in the “Round of 16” by Colombia.
