US says Russia breached Cold War weapon treaty
The US has made a formal accusation that Russia has been intentionally breaching a 1987 arms control treaty that helped put an end to the cold war.
The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty signed by Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev prohibits the use of ground-launched missiles with ranges between 300 and 3,400 miles.
The US now says that Russia has been violating the treaty since 2008 and that it is a ‘very serious matter.’
President Barack Obama addressed a formal letter to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, thus putting more pressure on an already sanctioned Kremlin.
