Ukraine’s PM not allowed to resign
Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, has his resignation intention rejected by the Parliament. Yatsenyuk wanted to step down as politicians declined his proposed budget, which included rather drastic measures meant to boost the country’s military spending.
However, after announcing his resignation, politicians approved his proposed budget.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk saw the move as his own victory: ‘There are two news stories in today’s world economy. First: Argentina announced a default, second – Ukraine didn’t. And will never announce it.’
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko commented on this: ‘What we need today is unity. We need a reliable government. I’m sure that effective cooperation between the president, the government and the parliament will bring results.’
