Ukrainian PM about jets, Russia and satellite footage
The Ukrainian Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, made the first statements following the downing of two military fighter jets on Wednesday.
He said that, while one was shot down by land-to-air missile, the other was brought down from another aircraft in an air-to-air missile attack. He also said the Russian led rebels were responsible for carrying out the attacks.
‘The situation is extremely complicated and critical. These Russia-led guerrillas just shot down two Ukrainian military fighter jets and we started an investigation. And probably the first one was shot down with a man PAD (portable rocket launcher) and another one allegedly was shot down with an air-to air missile,’ the prime minister said.
He added that the Ukrainian government will ask of other western nations that make use of satellite technology to provide them with additional images and video footage in order to asses the origins of the alleged plane that shot down the military jet.
Since pro-Russian rebels do not possess any combat air crafts, Ukrainian officials reported that the plane from which the missile was launched must have been Russian.
