Sunni extremists stand strong despite Iraqi military efforts
In spite of recently released footage showing Iraqi aircraft bombing militants’ control points in the occupied city of Mosul, ISIL extremists do not seem to be affected by government interventions as they continue to gain more territory and control more cities.
The Sunni terrorist group seized a border crossing to Syria, two towns in western Iraq plus the town of Rutba, situated 150 kilometers off the Jordan border.
Given that the territories had been conquered in a weekend’s time, the ISIL display of force is overwhelming.
Meanwhile, more volunteers are gathering near Baghdad, preparing for a defensive operation when the extremists are to attack the capital city.
In the neighboring country of Iran, the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that he opposes any military intervention coming from the US, stating that Washington only pursues its own interests and wants to place Americans in powerful positions in Iraq.
