Ukrainian short ceasefire while military bodies are recovered
Ukrainian troops near Donetsk, together with pro-Russian separatists, have agreed on ceasefire for a few hours so that the bodies of 49 government soldiers who lost their lives in an airplane attack last week might be recovered.
A rebel confirmed that the bodies, placed in a container in a lorry, were being transported over to the Ukrainian troops. He also pointed out that separatists did not gain anything in return.
The separatists also mentioned that the fight will resume once the bodies are delivered and it will not end until the separatists win, clearly alluding to the unilateral ceasefire proposed by President Petro Poroshenko: ‘From the moment that we handed over the remains, the ceasefire was over, and the war goes on until we win,’ said the rebel.
The president said that his troops will refrain from attacks so that the rebels might have a chance to lay down their weapons and leave Ukraine.
Until then, military operations are still underway in the Slovyansk region.
