Luhansk protests for peace, Kiev for martial law
Two very different protests were in Ukraine over the past weekend. While people in Luhansk took to the streets in a rally for peace, people in Kiev called for martial law to be enforced in eastern Ukraine and the ceasefire to be brought to an end.
In Luhansk, demonstrators gather in an anti-war rally and asked the government to stop its military actions against pro-Russians. People want the self-proclaimed republic of Luhansk to be acknowledged by Kiev and the attacks to be stopped.
‘We are here to say we want peace at last. We want to be free,’ said one of the protesters.
Meanwhile, Ukrainians in Kiev have different opinions. They gathered in high numbers in front of the presidential palace and called on President Petro Poroshenko to declare martial law in the east. They also want the ceasefire to end as the truce might only aid separatists re-group and strengthen up.
