Berlin is ready to party
Local authorities working with officials with the German Football Association are preparing a massive celebration tonight in the capital city. Tens of thousands of people are already gathered near the Brandenburg Gate while authorities say at least 200.000 people are expected.
The stage is ready to rock while the crowds are already gathering. The only thing missing is the golden trophy and the winning team. The World Champions were delayed about two hours in Brazil. The Boeing 747-800 belonging to Lufthansa suffered a scratch while it was being loaded and for safety reasons technicians had to check the damage.
However, the team is expected to land in Berling some time this afternoon. Gotze and the rest of the team will head to the Brandenburg Gate where the stage is set and where a few thousand people were already present in the early hours of the morning.
The team will also present the trophy from an opened top bus in their trip from Tegel Airport to Brandenburg Gate. Authorities in Berlin decided to honour the team by painting all the trams in the city in Red, Black and Yellow and also writing “Weltmeister” (World Champions) on all of them.
The German postal service announced it will launch a limited edition of stamps to celebrate Germany's victory at the Football World Cup.
