The longest night in Germany
Germany's victory over Argentina in the Football World Cup final brought hundreds of thousands of people on the streets of Berlin. German police forces estimated about a quarter of a million people celebrated the success near the Brandenburg Gate in the Germany's capital city.
The joy of winning was limitless for thousands of people that cheered for Gotze and the rest of the team until the early ours of Monday. The fans gathered near the Brandenburg gate started singing together in a large chorus the famous song “We are the Champions”.
The same story happened in almost any Germany city. There were more than 100.000 people of the streets in Freiburg. 50,000 people gathered in Frankfurt's Kommerzbank arena 33,000 in Munich's Olympic stadium and more than 20,000 at Berlin's FC Union Club.
German newspaper Spiegel reported “What a night. From the Nirth Sea to the Alps, football fans have had only one thing to do for hours: celebrate, celebrate and celebrate!”
