Israel accepts Egypt’s truce, Hamas responds with rockets
Earlier this morning, Egypt proposed Israeli officials to accept a ceasefire so that negotiations to end the Israel-Palestine conflict could commence.
Israel accepted Cairo’s offer for truce with the condition that the Gaza-based Hamas would stop launching rocket attacks into the country.
However, the Hamas militant group seemed to think otherwise as shortly after the ceasefire should have come into effect, they fired five rockets into Israel.
Nevertheless, a Hamas spokesperson said that they did not reject negotiation possibilities but rather rejected the ceasefire because, firstly, the had not been consulted and, secondly, the group had nothing tangible to gain out of it.
The militant group which is responsible for firing hundreds of missiles into Israel said they want the border blocked enforced on Gaza by Israel and Egypt lifted and Hamas to be recognized by Egypt as a truce partner that needs to be included in any truce negotiations.
Meanwhile, as the apparent truce seems to come to an end, Israeli officials said that if Hamas ‘rejects the Egyptian proposal, if Hamas continues to shoot rockets at Israeli cities, we are prepared to continue our military operation and intensify it as needed to protect our people.’
The current conflict between Israel and the Hamas group located in the northern part of the highly populated Gaza Strip had taken the lives of over 192 Palestinians in one week of conflict and led to the exchange of hundreds of rockets.
