Temporary 5-hour truce to aid Palestinians
After four Palestinian boys, playing on the beach in Gaza were killed by Israeli shelling, both sides of the conflict have agreed to a temporary ceasefire for humanitarian reasons.
Israel and Hamas will stop launching rockets at each other during a five-hour truce that begins today, at 10 am local time and ends at 3 pm.
The ceasefire was called on by the UN after living circumstances for Palestinians have deeply deteriorated in the last days.
Over 560 homes in the Gaza Strip had been destroyed by Israeli shelling, drinking water supplies had ran out and sewers are overflowing.
Moreover, with more than 200 Palestinians dead and many others wounded, some in critical condition, medical aid is an urgent matter.
Despite the critical condition of Gaza locals, Israeli officials announced that they have no intention of bringing the attacks to an end and that the possibility of an incoming ground invasion is ‘very high.’
‘If you want to efficiently fight terrorism you must be present, boots on the ground,’ said an Israeli defense official. It seems that the plan is to capture and hold the Gaza Strip under occupation for a long period of time in order to ensure long-term peace.
