Brutal Syrian airstrike in Iraq
Syria has just plunged into Iraq’s civil war after launching an airstrike in several regions of the Anbar province and killing at least 57 civilians while more than 120 were severely injured.
‘Unfortunately, (the) Syrian regime carried out barbarian attacks against civilians in Anbar province. Today we will hold an emergency meeting in Ramadi to address this issue,’ said an Anbar official.
Although, originally, Iraq believed it was the US who had launched a drone air strike, later it was confirmed that the planes bore Syrian flags and after the attack they returned to the Syrian airspace, across the border.
Meanwhile, Iraq’s Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, is surrounding the capital city of Baghdad with the country’s best troops and most powerful equipment, in preparation for an incoming Sunni attack.
The US has also deployed the first batch of 40 military troops that are to assist Iraq in battle while hundreds more are to arrive over the next days.
