2 journalists killed in Ukrainian battle
Two Russian journalists have lost their lives while covering the ongoing battle near the Luhansk region.
Igor Kornelyuk, reporter, and Anton Voloshin, sound engineer, were caught in a fire exchange between the Ukrainian army and pro-Russian separatists. The two were allegedly hit by a military shell.
Kornelyuk died later, in the hospital, but Voloshin died at the scene.
A third Russian journalist, cameraman Viktor Denisov, had, fortunately, survived the incident because he was further away from the group. He filmed the entire scene as it was unfolding.
‘I must say I was really lucky, I’d walked toward our cars, about 100 meters away and that’s when the shelling started. My colleagues were supposed to have been out of the range of fire, but for some reason one of the shells flew straight into them,’ he later explained to the media.
The Russian foreign ministry has called on Kiev to investigate the tragic event.
