Iraqi government and ISIL agree on truce to evacuate Baiji locals
Iraq’s government is faced with a hard reality after last days’ events. As the Iraqis are counting their dead, the extremists Sunni are counting their victories.
Although the government refuses to admit defeat in the oil town of Baiji, but, after yesterday’s fighting, extremists have gained control of 75% of Iraq’s biggest oil refinery.
Now, after agreeing on a temporary ceasefire with the ISIL militants, the Baghdad government can evacuate the remaining workers to safer places.
Meanwhile, in other parts of the region, oil shortages are starting to be felt first-hand by Iraqis as militants are in control of the Baiji refinery.
‘I have been waiting since 6am for only 30 litres. I’ve already consumed ten litres while waiting in the queue. This is an unacceptable situation. Allah does not accept this situation, only 30 litres in Iraq — the great country of oil,’ angrily spoke one Kirkuk local.
