World Cup tourists' pros and cons of Brazil

World Cup tourists' pros and cons of Brazil

The approximately 600,000 foreign tourists who are enjoying the World Cup in its host country, Brazil, have disclosed the overall drawbacks of the 12 cities where games are held but also expressed some praises regarding the local people.

The most common complaint is related to poor traffic management, whether it is public or not. The hospitality and friendliness of the local people, though, seems to be what impressed visitors the most.

In Rio de Janeiro, tourists complained that elevators and escalators in the international airport were not functioning.

In Fortaleza, a northeastern city, restaurants did not provide menus translated into English. The staff also had poor English skills and, as a consequence, communication was rendered to hand gestures and mimics. Little knowledge of an international language was also a barrier in communication in the town of Recife.

Huge traffic jams seem to be a nerve-wrecking experience for tourists in a hurry, who saw their 15-minute ride transform into nearly a one-hour journey, especially when it comes to traffic in big cities like Sao Paolo, Salvador or Brasilia, the country's capital.

Visitors also tagged the capital city of Brasilia as being 'more expensive than Miami.'
