'Frozen' helps tourism in Norway
Norway could thank Walt Disney Pictures. The number of American tourist visiting Norway this year increased dramatically after the movie “Frozen” was released in 2013.
The American 3D computer animated movie was inspired by “The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen”. The story was based on a fictional country of Arendelle, which resembled Norway in almost any way possible. It was also a box office hit with a net income of more than 1 billion dollars that made it the highest-grossing animated film ever.
What the movie did was to promote Norway's landscape and the figures show it all. Seeing the movie actually made Americans visit the Northern European country. The numbers of tourist traveling from the US to Norway went up in the first months of 2014 by almost 40 percent.
It wasn't actually an involuntary move. Disney signed a partnership with Innovation Norway in May 2013, about half of year before the movie's release and it payed of eventually. The “Frozen” page in Visit Norway's page received in excess of 250,000 visits and that is ten more time than what the page normally receives.
