Violent protest in Istanbul
At least 90 people were injured in the latest clash between Turkish police and violent protesters. Thousands of people marched through the streets of the capital city Istanbul, but things rapidly escalated and police forced had to intervene.
Official figures say 90 people or more were injured, 19 of them police officers and 140 demonstrators were arrested. Police found eight handcrafted bombs on the arrested individuals. The thousands of protesters tried to reach to Taksim square, downtown Istanbul. Police forces had to use tear gas, steel barricades, water cannons and even rubber pellets against the violent protesters.
It appears the main workers union called in thousands of workers to protest against Turkish prime minister, Tayyip Erdogan. Recently, he was involved in different scandals incidents with many recordings showing the corruption within his staff leaked out.
However, in the last 48 hours Istanbul looked like a war zone with various groups clashing with police forces. “We will be in Taksin square despite this illegal march ban. Our struggle for labor, equality, justice, freedom and peace will carry on,” state workers union.
