Leading Ebola doctor became infected
Sheik Umar Khan is the leading doctor in treating the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leona and was hailed as a national hero for his struggle to fight the disease.
Unfortunately, 39-years-old Khan has caught the disease that kills 90% percent of its victims. Three nurses working at the same treatment center with Khan died from Ebola earlier this week.
There is no cure or vaccine for the Ebola virus that so far, this year’s outbreak has killed 632 people in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia. 50 of those fatalities were health workers.
‘I’m afraid for my life,’ told Khan in a previous interview in which he showed how meticulously he has to protect himself when working with those infected. He and all the other health-care workers had to continuously check their clothes for any kind of ruptures of tears.
The Ebola virus kills its victims by painfully draining all fluids, including blood, from the body through all of the orifices.
