The wreck of Air Algerie was found in Mali
The wreckage of the Air Algerie plane that went missing a day ago has been found. The aircraft crashed in Mali's Gossi region, close with the Burkina Faso region.
The information was confirmed by the French president's office this morning. The plane had 110 passengers on board an six crew members. 51 passengers were French so authorities in Paris were among the first to react. “We have found the Algerian plane. The wreck has been located about 50 kilometers north of Burkina Faso border in Mali. At the moment we have no further information on the fate of the passengers, but our crisis teams have been deployed and are working on it,” said France's Transport Minister, Fredric Cuvillier.
The president's office has also stated that a military unit has been sent to the crash site to secure the area and gather evidence. In the same statement, President Francois Hollande expressed his solidarity with the families of the victims.
Spanish authorities have also took responsibility with the incident. The plane was owned by a Spanish company and the crew was Spanish. The public works ministry set up an emergency committee to deal with the situation and the Foreign Ministry has stated it is mobilizing all its diplomatic staff in West Africa.
