Sterling was banned for life!
LA Clippers franchise owner, Donald Sterling has been banned for life and fined 2.5 million dollars! The announcement was made last night by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
The biggest racism scandal in recent years has finally reached closure. After a lightning and though investigation, the NBA Commission established the voice on the recordings obtained by TMZ belongs to LA Clippers owner, Donald Sterling. His offensive racist comments got him the biggest fine and ban possible.
Donald Sterling may not participate at any Clippers games, office or facility, participate in any business or any player personnel decision involving the team or attend at any NBA game. The Commission also fined Donald Stirling 2.5 million dollars, the maximum amount allowed. Adam Silver announced the money will go to anti-discrimination organizations.
“This has been a painful episode for all members of the NBA family. The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and hurtful, I am extremely proud of this great league's diverse, respectful and inclusive culture, and we will not allow one individual's intolerant views to define us. Let me be clear. Mr. Sterling's views have no place in the NBA,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
LA Clippers coach, Doc Rivers said the decision had to be made. “I think Adam Silver was fantastic. Personally, I thought he made a decision that really was the right one and had to be made. I told the players about the decision and they were happy that it was a resolution and it's over,” said Doc Rivers.
Donald Sterling is a real-estate developer and attorney that bought the Clippers franchise in 1982 and moved it from San Diego City to Los Angeles.
