Oklahoma execution gone wrong
An Oklahoma execution didn’t go as planned after a supposedly unconscious prisoner began to breath heavily, struggle to release his bounds, grind his teeth, mumble out words and strain to lift his head from the pillow.
All of these happened 10 minutes after the execution began and a doctor declared that the inmate Clayton Lockett was unconscious. He was previously given a new drug combination.
Three minutes after the prisoner began to show signs of activity although he was supposed to be sedated, a doctor observed the area of the injection and ‘determined the line had blown,’ director Robert Patton stated, meaning that Lockett’s vein had exploded.
After receiving the data regarding Lockett’s execution from the doctor present in the death chamber, Patton’s next move was to postpone another execution that was due to take place two hours later, and reschedule it within a 14-days interval.
