China destroys mountains to build cities
The Chinese have commenced a never-before-seen construction plan in which they intend to bulldoze entire mountains so that they can build new cities.
China plans to destroy as many as 700 mountains and then move the debris into valleys to fill them up. The next move would be to build cities on top of that.
But Chinese scientists warn that the plan might have dezastruous consequences, especially since it hasn't been tried before. They have already warned officials about the dangers of landslides, massive floodings, increased air and water pollution and soil erosion.
However, the goal of the project is the intriguing part as the 'most concerning issue is the safety of constructing cities on the newly created land,' said one Chinese scientist.
'Because there have been no land-creation projects like this before in the world, there are no guidelines,' said one academic, warning that anything built on the new soft soil is a potential hazard.
