'Lucky 13' not so lucky for Taylor Swift
The singer has been sued over the phrase 'Lucky 13' that she uses on her merchandise.
Blue Sphere Inc., a California-based company, claims it has had the 'Lucky 13' phrase trademarked for over 20 years. The company imprints the number on its vintage-line clothing.
After Swift began using the same phrase, in 2012, for her official merchandise, Blue Sphere decided it must take the artist to court and demand punitive damages, recovery of lost profits and legal fees and, in addition, to prohibit Swift from using the term on any of her products.
Swift said that 13 is her lucky number and that 'I paint this on my hand before every show. Basically, whenever a 13 comes up in my life, it’s a good thing.' The artist even had the number imprinted on her private jet.
