Why and how to travel alone
Here's a thought: why don't you take your next vacation all by yourself? It sounds a bit scary, but it can be the most impressive, inspiring, daunting, fulfilling, triumphant experience you'll ever have.
Those could be your most vivid memories. You should travel alone because for once in your life it would be absolutely ok for absolutely everything to be about you, you and you.
Do you know how many compromises you make every day? What you eat, what you wear, what time you wake up, who you say 'hello' to...
Travel alone, and if one day you're tired and you don't feel like tracking anymore – don't. Or you feel like going shopping all day – do! You want to stare at a building for an hour – stare away!
Aside from being able to do whatever your gorgeous self fancies doing, on multiple occasions you will surely feel like a superstar. When you're alone, everything you do feels like a grand conquest and you will be the travel rockstar.
Here are some tips for your great adventure with yourself:
1.Research. And then research again. And then research the research that you researched. And by all means, have a plan B, a plan C, a plan D. You can never be overprepared.
2.Use your logic and instincts. You probably wouldn't go down a dark alley at midnight in your own hometown – don't do it when you're away – if it feels funny, get out.
3.Read up on the culture. Don't just research about restaurants and things to do, and when in doubt – do as the locals do.
4.Drink responsibly. Do not black out, do not take weird drinks from some weird bar. Use your head.
5.It's ok to be lonely. You see in movies all the time these beautiful people who just bump into each other and become best friends and they get married and bla bla. Well, that does happen, but it does not happen often. So when you're at that restaurant surrounded by people who are laughing with each other, and you're by yourself at your table for one, know that it is temporary, it is not going to last forever and you're doing something really great for yourself.
So be brave, do it, travel by yourself and you'll come back with a mountain full of stories.
