Lights wall to celebrate 25th Berlin Wall anniversary
Today it is an artist have, a multicultural amalgam and youthful city with pulsing nightlife. But just 25 years ago, Berlin was once a divided city, split in half by a concrete wall.
To mark the passing of 25 years since the Wall of Berlin had fallen, a 15-km symbolic fence will, for one night, divide the city again.
Each light is, in fact, a balloon and each balloon belongs to one person who, in one way or another, has a connection with the Berlin Wall and its fall.
The ‘Lichtgrenze’ will be composed of 8,000 lit balloons and, come nightfall, their patron will gradually release all of them into the sky as the Staatskapelle Berlin orchestra plays on.
