Travel to Turkey: Mount Nemrut
Mount Nemrut or Nemrud, is located in southeastern Turkey, 40 km north of Kahta near Adiyaman and is 2,134 m high.
Large stone statues of Greek and Persian gods which mysteriously have all had their heads removed, will greet the visitors. They are assumed to guard what appears as a royal tomb from the 1st century BC.
There are also slabs with astronomical information on the site, showing the arrangement of stars and the planets Jupiter, Mercury and Mars on 7 July 62 BC, which might be the date when the construction of the monument began.
The mountain is a UNESCO world heritage site since 1987 and can be visited by tourists during April through October.
