The Longest Way: Beijing to Urumqi by foot

On 9 November 2007, Christoph Rehage decided to begin the road that would totally change his life. To cross China on foot. He walked over 4,800 kilometers, stopping a year later, in October 2008, starting from Beijing and ending in Urumqi.

The only breaks he made were while solving problems with paperwork, bureaucratic or personal problems or when having to cross some short distances by boat or plane.

"What was I thinking when I was traveling? I do not know, what you usually think on a typical day. Sometimes mind-boggling to some things, sometimes not. Sometimes you think  about passport, danger, pain, relatives and loved ones, sometimes you just sit and sing all kinds of songs through the desert. It also happened to be boring. It was reassuring tho'."

"Why did I do this? I wanted to regain my life. Regain the trust on me, to remove my inner fear that told me what to do. Many looked at me and said: 'I want to be free just like this man' but they do not realize that for a moment I was controlled by certain things, I almost felt like I lost control over myself...".

Here is the video of his amazing journey:
