Temple of Artemis, one of the ancient Seven Wonders
Temple of Artemis or the 'Temple of Diana', is considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Unfortunately, all that's left of the imperial construction that was once shining, are a column and a piece of 'rock' that was another column, both in a swamp!
It's hard enough as an ignorant person to appreciate the true value of these ruins so if you go to Kusadasi and you want to visit these places, do not do it without a specialized guide or you will lose more than half of the charm of the place!
The Temple of Artemis was built by the emperor Hadrian the Great in 550 BC in Ephesus, a city located within the Babylonian Empire. For 120 years of work were necessary to raise the building, which was 51 meters wide, 105 meters long and backed by 127 columns that were 18 meters high. In the interior of the temple was a famous statue of the goddess Artemis, who was six feet tall and was covered with gold and silver.
After about 200 years after it was built, the temple burned. In 356 BC it was rebuilt by the citizens of Ephesus, but was knocked down with the advent of Christianity.
It is recomanded that if you go to Kusadasi and want to visit this temple, you should not allocate more than 30 minutes for that.
