Spain offers the most quality beaches in the world
Spanish authorities can't brag about the country's economics, but it can brag with its beaches. The Spanish seaside has almost 700 separate high quality “Blue Flag” beaches, the highest number in the world.
According to the Foundation of Environmental Education that labels voluntary participant beaches, Spain increased its number by more than 30 in the last 12 months. The “Blue Flag” label is given to beaches and marinas that meet tough sand and water quality, but also safety standards.
Almost 50 countries participate in the classification and Spain has been leading all charts regarding the quality of its beaches since 1987. The Spanish Ministry of Tourism announced FEE gave the Blue Flag label to 573 beaches and 108 marinas in the country. The highest number of them is found in Galicia and Valencia regions.
Spain is followed by Greece with 407 Blue Flag beaches, Turkey with 397 and France with 379.
