You can get to Elephanta Caves in Mumbai, India, by semi-luxury and luxury boats that will take you there in a less that an hour long journey from the Gateway of India.
Originally named Gharapuri, the caves got the new Elephanta name after an elephant statue at the port.
The caves were carved out of a big rock and contain several shrines and sculptures in symmetrical courtyards and cells. Dated by the historians way back to the 5th century, today the Elephanta Caves are a UNESCO World Heritage site.
