Dangerous Destinations
When considering going on vacation, you must think about a lot of other things besides which hotel to choose, or which are the best restaurants and the most exotic places to visit in the country chosen. If you plan on going to a country you've never been before, it's best to do a little research about it, in what concerns criminal activity, government views and the general state of the population.
What does this mean? Many countries that have been great travel destinations in the past, are now facing different problems that may affect the quality of travel industries. Some of the problems that occur are sometimes hidden from the eye of the public, and the public becomes aware of them only when they are put face to face with the situation. To give an example, USA's Detroit has been ranked as the US city with the highest crime rate 5 years in a row. Who would like to be exposed to that?
The situation in Iraq presents a travel problem, because even if the travel authorities are trying to boost their image by making all sorts of exciting projects, there isn't really a way that this country can take care of foreign visitors at the present moment. Afghanistan faces the same issue, the difference being that it hasn't been a travel destination in a long time, due to the Russian invasion and now the Talibans.
North Korea is also considered a dangerous destination, but not because of the same reasons as Iraq or Afghanistan, but because it has a lot of restrictions, travelers being monitored and watched, for religious and political activity. India is also one of the places that is now avoided by travellers, especially by women, because there have been cases of rape and the rate of violence towards women has increased in the last few years.
These are only a few of the many examples that can be given, but the point is that there is a need for research because visiting can be a pleasure, but also a nuissance.
