Couchsurfing is a project, founded in January 2003 in the United States, having more than 6 million members in 100,000 cities, 231 countries and territories, in 2013.
What is Couchsurfing? Its etymology comes from the practice of moving from a friend's house to anther, sleeping wherever is available, not staying in a single place more than a few days. Just like the name says, it is a way of traveling by "surfing" on couches, living at a host's home or host travelers and have the opportunities to join events.
How can you couchsurf? Easy! If a person wants to couchsurf, all they have to do is access the official website, www.couchsurfing.org, log in and search for available couches for the place they'd like to visit, registration being completely free. As a new member, information and photos about themselves and accommodation they offer, need to be provided. More information equals better chances to find trustworthy member as host and as guests.
There are some housing tips as well, like reading the traveler's profile carefully, being clear about ones expectations and house rules and most important, share your life and open your home to travelers.
