An unusual destination - Red Beach, China
When we think about the beach, the first thing we imagine is the golden sand at the water's edge. But when we're talking about Panjin Red Beach, China, the changing hues and the golden sand become ... a sea of red algae! These red algae, that seem to come out of a science fiction movie, are called 'Suaeda salsa' and grow during April and May, when they are green, becoming red early in the autumn.
Red Beach is located in one of the largest wetlands in the world and incudes a complete ecosystem. There are more than 260 bird species and nearly 400 species of animals that live there. Among these there are also endangered species such as the Red Crown Crane and the Black-Billed Gull. In 1988 the area was declared a protected ecosystem area at the highest level, all to protect these endangered wonderful species. For this reason, only a small part of this incredible place is open to visitors, the rest being devoted to species that inhabit it and scientific research.
The whole place consists of land and shallow marine waters, near Panjin City in China. Red Beach is therefore one of nature's wonders, which does nothing but surprise us and show us the uniqueness of our planet.
