Klose announced his retirement from the national team
Lahm was the first to retire from international football, but the World Cup Champions suffered another heavy loss. After beating Ronaldo as the most prolific scorer in World Cup history, Miroslav Klose announced his retirement.
The 36 year old striker helped Germany win the World Cup and also established a few records. Klose stands second to none when it comes to most goals scored by a player in World Cup history. He scored two goals and broke Ronaldo's record. He also became only the third player to score at least one goal in four consecutive final tournaments.
“Winning the title in Brazil was a childhood dream come true. I am happy and proud to have contributed to this big success for German football,” Klose said. He also added this was the perfect time to end a 13 year career with the German national team.
Despite losing a pure striker, Germany's manager, Joachim Low said he respects his decision. “I met Miro last week and he told me he had thought long about it. I sensed that his decision was irreversible and that I cannot convince him otherwise. I have a lot of respect for miro's decision,” Low said.
Klose ended his international career with only one major trophy, the 2014 World Cup. With Germany he was runner up in 2002 and third place at two World Cups, in 2006 and 2010. In 2008, Germany lost the European Championships to Spain.
