Barcelona's solution for a better defence: Vermaelen
FC Barcelona does not need any further presentation, but through its recent history it always had a bad history when it comes to defence. Its offence always provided more goals than it could concede, but its line of defence was never among the best.
The Catalan club sealed the deal with Thomas Vermaelen and officially made the announcement. The transfer fee according to the Spanish side was 15 million Pounds. The former Arsenal captain signed a five year deal with Barcelona.
“I feel ready to play here. I think I can offer a lot to this club. It wasn't a difficult decision at all. There is a lot of competition here, but I'm very excited. It's up to me to show what I can do. It will be a challenge for me. That's why I came to this club, to have a fresh start and i'm very eager to play some games,” said the 28 year old defender after signing the deal.
However, Vermaelen was troubled last season by a series of injuries and had only 21 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal. He became the seventh player to sign with Barcelona this summer, after Suarez, ter Stegen, Mathieu, Rakitic and Bravo.
But Barcelona is not yet ready to call it a day. Catalan media reports that Barcelona is looking for a winger. According to Sport Catalunya, Barcelona's bosses have three targets: Juan Cuadrado, Juanfran and Lukasz Piszczek.
