Ukrainian troops regain terrain in Donetsk
Following two days of fights between the Ukrainian military and pro-Russian separatists, the Donetsk airport is once again in the hands of the government.
The authorities victory comes with consequences as at least 30 people were reported dead and many others were wounded. The military launched several air stikes in order to regain control of the airport.
Although residents tried to flee the area, the self-proclaimed mayor of Donetsk, Alexander Lukyanchenko, warned people that they should stay inside and off streets. Civilian casualties were also reported.
The clashes between government troops and separatists increased in violence after Sunday's presidential election when billionaire Petro Poroshenko was chosen to lead the country and end the six months of political turmoil.
