Talibans confused by Bergdahl, suspect trap
Former and current Taliban leaders spoke about finding and imprisoning US Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, saying that they were just as confused as the Afghan villagers to find Bergdahl wandering alone off his base and mumbling curses addressed to his fellow Americans.
Bowe Bergdahl is the American soldier who, after five years of Taliban imprisonment was released on the basis of a prisoner exchange deal between the Talibans and the US.
The fighters who captured Bergdahl rushed into the village after being informed of his presence there. The whole situation seemed so bizzarre to them that, initially, the thought they had entered a trap.
Bergdahl later told them that 'personal issues' were his reason to depart the US army base. Therefore, the Talibans took the US soldier to a 'safe location' but then he was moved in different places around Pakistan.
A current leader of the Talibans confessed that the deal with Americans increasingly raised his troops morale and gave them movement legitimacy. It 'shows we are able to deal directly with the Americans and also successfully ,' he said.
