Family stones to death pregnant woman
A 25-year old pregnant Pakistani woman was stoned to death by her father, brothers and other relatives because she chose to marry someone without her family's consent.
The tragedy happened in front of a Lahore court and the 20 attackers used bricks from a nearby construction site to end her life.
The woman, Farzana Parveen, came to court in order to contest an abduction complaint her family had filed against her husband. That is where the men ambushed her.
'I killed my daughter as she had insulted all of our family by marrying a man without our consent, and I have no regret over it,' Farzana's father reported to the police.
Around 1,000 women, although many think the number is much bigger, die each year because of these so-called 'honor killings' when families can kill a member who, they consider, had dishonored them.
Moreover, the criminals often go unpunished because the Pakistani law allows families to formally forgive them, thus relieving them of any charges.
