French official could not endure any longer the migrant camps and sent the police. Law enforcement officers helped by other officials started tearing down the improvised camps in Calais used by illegal immigrants.
The migrant camps built out of junk were used by immigrants as a last station where they prepared to cross the channel to UK. The official measure was announced so most the immigrants were already gone, but the time police forces rushed in. Although most agreed with the move, humanitarian activists gathered to protest and vocally oppose the operation.
Police forces had to take action after a skin infection scabies erupted through the camp and more than 600 people were infected. Authorities confirmed the migrants will be treated for scabies, but humanitarian activists all claim the health issue should not be a pretext for eviction.
