A fighter jet crashed in norther France
A French fighter jet crashed yesterday in a field near the village of Baroches. Surprisingly, no one on ground was injured while the pilot ejected and landed on the ground safe.
Authorities stated the cause of the accident is still unknown, but an investigation was opened. The Dassault Mirage 2000 fighter jet was performing a military exercise when the incident occurred. The jet fell out of the sky in northern France, near the village of Baroches.
These types of incidents are rare in France, but not unheard of. Last year, a similar aircraft crashed in Haute Saone area, central France. Official figures show since 1990 that about 12 Dassault Mirage fighter jet crashed in France while performing military exercises.
The Dassault Mirage 200 is a French multirole, single-engine, single-seat jet fighter. Manufactured by Dassault Aviation, the Mirage 2000 was introduced in 1982 and it is still in service. The cost of a single unit is around 20 million dollars. France has around 300 units still operating, but other countries like Greece, India, Egypt, United Arab Emirates Qatar or Peru still rely on the french design.
