60 insurgents killed by Afghan and Western troops
At least 60 militants were killed in a battle between Afghan and Western forces in Afghanistan. The local intelligence agency confirmed the battle took place somewhere in the southeast near the Pakistan border.
Afghan troops were supported from the air by Western military forces when more than 300 insurgents tried to attack Afghan bases in Ziruk district, Paktika province. Nation Directorate of Security believes the insurgents were from the Haqqani militant network.
