120-years worst floods in Serbia and Bosnia
Parts of Bosnia and Serbia are under a state of emergency after the worst rainstorms and floods on records swiped through their landscape, causing landslides, burying houses and cutting off whole communities.
Army helicopter were sent to help evacuate the thousands of citizens left stranded but severe weather is seriously slowing down the rescue operations. So far, 5 people have been declared dead although many other have suffered great losses.
Rivers burst into cities and villages causing massive landslides which buried houses. As electricity failed, entire communities of people found themselves isolated.
Aleksandar Vucic, Serbian Prime Minister, said that this was the 'greatest flooding disaster ever.' The Serbian government has asked the UN and neighboring countries for their aid.
So far, 4,000 people have been evacuated by rescue teams.
Meanwhile, in Bosnia, citizens and rescue teams are going through the same ordeal.
Army helicopters have been struggling to save as many people as they can but 'we had to abort the mission because of the rainfall and winds. The weather is horrible and the helicopter has its limits,' as rescue pilot Fahrudin Memic declared, adding that: 'This is the most difficult mission I have ever participated in.'
