Ford teams up with ketchup maker Heinz
Car-maker giant Ford decided to partner up with the most unusual partner: ketchup-maker, Heinz.
You may wonder how could the two companies benefit from each other?
Well, it seems Ford decided to make auto-parts out of leftover tomatoes in the ketchup-making process.
'Our goal is to develop a strong, lightweight material that meets our vehicle requirements, while at the same time reducing our overall environmental impact,' said a research specialist from Ford.
Instead of throwing away tons of seeds, tomato skins and stems, researchers hope to transform them into auto components.
The project to incorporate plant-based products in other industries is a quickly developing field which aims at reducing industry residue while, at the same time, adopting environment safety policies.
Heinz is not at its first partnership of this sort after it teamed up with Coca-Cola, a few years back, in an effort to make ketchup bottles from residue of sugar cane.
